The amount of deicing fluid readily available with Luxembourg airport, made it survive through below freezing temperatures. While the neighboring cities Brussels, Munich, Roissy and Frankfurt were left with shortage.
Luxair, the airline responsible for Findel, spent 100,000 euros to increase capacity of deicing fluid from 100,000 to 175,000 litres in May 2010. As it needs water for dilution, the actual stock reached to 350,000 litres that can meet week’s coverage in very bad weather conditions.
For next winter preparation, Luxair will increase the reserves so that fluid will last seven days is readily at disposal.
