High Taxi Charges at Canberra Airport

Discussions regarding high occupancy taxi shuttles from Canberra airport to parliament house and civic buildings remains unresolved. Meetings are said to be continuing over the next two weeks between the taxi industry, the airport and the taxi regulators.

Reasons behind the matter remain unresolved, as aerial taxi network wants to charge a flat fare for each passenger; however the taxi regulators in department of terriority and municipal services have not yet approved it. The airport insists on charging a licence fee for the service. An Aerial chief executive said that if the airport continues to demand a licence fee then there will be a need to charge $1.50 each passenger to cover the cost of commissionaires.

Yet no flat fare has been approved and passengers continue to hire taxis by paying high occupancy fares of 75% of the standard fare.
