NEW BERLIN BRANDENBURG AIRPORT TO OPEN IN 100 DAYS

Berlin Brandenburg International Airport – Europe’s new airline hub is all set to open in 100 days from today that is 3rd of June, 2012.

The new gateway which is located in south East Berlin will replace existing Berlin Tegel Airport, and Schonefield airports that serves the German Capital.

5000 builders are currently involved to complete this construction work of terminal interiors and creating new green spaces around the airport.  Airport is 715 meters long with 16 glass walled gates, transparent walkway for passengers in transit, 32 metre high observation tower for visitors to the airport.

Also around 10,000 airport testers are working on new IT systems and operation equipment like check-in, baggage and security check-in technology since November 2011.  Shopping units are also filled with goods.

The new airport will be able to handle up to 27 million passengers, with the potential to expand to 45 million.

The airport will be officially opened by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, the governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, and Brandenburg’s minister president, Matthias Platzeck.

Passenger Traffic at Norway Airports Increase

Passengers traffic handled by Norwegian airport Avinor is 3.2 million in total during January and up by 7.6% as compared to January 2011.

This high jump is by domestic traffic which show increase by 8.2%, while international traffic increased by 6.1%.

Norway’s Stavanger Airport Sola show increase in traffic by 8.7%, while Trondheim Airport, show growth by 7.8 %.

Oslo Airport Gardermoen and Bergen Airport Flesland also show growth by 7.8% and 3.4% respectively. Alesund Airport Vigra showed greatest increase by 23.1%.

Thus, overall growth for the country’s regional airports was 7.8%. Also aircraft movement in January was up by 6.5%.

Passengers Traffic at Vienna Airport high by 9%

Passengers traffic at Vienna airport increase by 9% in January 2012 as compared with January last year.

According to Vienna airport, passengers transfer at the gateway has increase by 19.4 % when compared with January 2011. But flight take off and landing has decrease by 2.7% and cargo also decline by 10.1% in the same period.

Also report says, passenger traffic to Eastern Europe show growth by 26.1% and passengers traveling to Western Europe and Middle East rise by 6.5% and 5.8% respectively, as compared to January 2011.

Rajiv Gandhi Airport ranks third best in world

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has been ranked the third best airport in the world in terms of service quality to 5 – 15 million passengers per annum.

The airport ranks ahead of globe contenders like Abu Dhabi, Adelaide, Geneva, Cape Town, Hamburg and London Luton Airport by Airports Council International (ACI), say GMR.

The airport had consistently raised its standards since 2009 when it scored 4.44.  While in 2010, airport score was 4.51 points overall and 2011 score was 4.57 in the category.
